A WORD IN YOUR EAR

Luke 9: 18-27 Jesus is “the Christ of God”.

18While He was praying alone with His disciples, He asked them,

“Who do people say that I am?”

 19They answered

“Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others say one of the prophets come back to life.”

20So Jesus asked them directly,

“But who do you say that I am?”

Peter answered,

“The Christ of God”.

21Then He ordered them not to tell anyone.

22 He told them,

“The Son of Man must suffer so much and be rejected by the religious leaders and killed, and then He will rise again from the dead on the third day.

23If anyone wants to follow me, He must deny Himself, take up His own cross every day, and then he can follow Me.

24If you save this life for yourself, you will not get eternal life given to you by God, but if you give up this life to God, you will have eternal life given to you by God. 25How does it help you if you get the whole world, only to lose your soul which lives on, by having it thrown away?

26If you do not live for Me and the words I speak in this world, I will have nothing to do with you in the next world, where I share glory with My Father and the holy angels. 27I am speaking the truth to you when I say that some of you standing right here will actually get to see the very Kingdom of God which I am talking about, before they die”.

Luke 9:28-36 The Kingdom of God is seen.

28Just eight days later, this happened when Jesus went up a mountain to pray with Peter, James, and John. 29As He prayed He shone as if a light was glowing through Him from the inside out. 30Then Moses and Elijah came and talked with Him, 31shining brightly, talking about the death that He had to suffer in Jerusalem. 32Peter and James had fallen asleep but when they woke up, they saw Jesus as He really was, in His glory, along with the two men standing with Him. 33As the two men were leaving Him, Peter said to Jesus,

“Master, it’s fantastic that we saw this. Let’s build something for each one of you”.

He was speaking without thinking. 34At this, he was interrupted by a cloud which came down on them, which now made them afraid, 35and a voice spoke from inside the cloud saying,

“This is my Son and I love Him, listen to what He is saying”.

36After the voice stopped, they found Jesus no longer had anyone with Him. At that time they did not tell anyone the things they had seen.

Prayer, Praise and Worship

a). “… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.

b). Jesus said, “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” Matt.26:40

Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).

Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.

Prayer suggestions;-

  1. The world. (ie ‘For those in authority.’)
  2. The ‘suffering church.’ https://barnabasfund.org/nz/pray/daily-prayer/#previous-dates
  3. Your own situation. (Suggest ‘needs’ rather than ‘wants’.)

Pray along with this hymn… O Jesus I have promised…
