John 3:19-21 Two types of people…

Give God Time

Prayer and praise.

Jesus said, “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” Matthew 26:40, so we start our journey of giving God time to work in us, by praying along with this hymn

How Great Thou Art

A Word in your ear

John 3:19-21 Two types of people…

Jesus is still talking to Nicodemus. One of the recognised leaders of the Jews had snuck out to ask Jesus for the answers to questions he knew were not being answered by his own team. Jesus’ insightful questions led to the whole conversation with Nicodemus, in what we call John chapter 3.

Jesus now goes on to explain that there are two types of people…

  1. those who hide from the  light, and
  2. those who are attracted to it.

It is all about the heart. Jesus sometimes might ask a question to test the heart of a person… even when He already knows the answer to the question.

John 3:19 “Now this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, but people loved the darkness rather than the light.

Why?

Because their actions were wicked. 20 For everyone who does evil things hates the light and avoids it, so that his actions won’t be exposed.

Evil people don’t want to be seen as they really are.

21 But everyone who does what is true comes to the light, so that all may see that his actions are accomplished through God.”

That is the end of conversation with Nicodemus as  we have it here. Those who are trying to reach Him, God draws to Himself. God is responsive. (See the testimony this week).

Summary

All can see what God has done. (Romans 1:18-20). There will be no excuse. That also gives credit where credit is due –  to God. Here, goodness itself shows that God is at work.  People who do what is right are those living in God’s light.

To God be the Glory…

Prayer and Worship

“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.

Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).

Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.

Prayer suggestions;-

  1. The world. (ie ‘For those in authority.’)
  2. The ‘suffering church.’ https://barnabasfund.org/nz/pray/daily-prayer/#previous-dates
  3. Your own situation. (Suggest ‘needs’ rather than ‘wants’.)
