A WORD IN YOUR EAR
Chapter 10: 25-37. The heart (The Good Samaritan)
25A religious lawyer trying to be clever, stood up and asked Him;
“Master, tell me, what do I have to do to have eternal life?”
26Jesus replied,
“What does the law say? How do you understand what is written?”
27He answered;
“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind and your neighbour as much as you love yourself.”
28In reply He said,
“Yes, well, just do that then and you will live”.
29The man needing to put himself in the right said to Jesus,
“Who is my neighbour?”
30Jesus gave this answer,
“A man went from Jerusalem to Jericho and was attacked by thieves. They took his clothes, beat him up, and ran away, leaving him half dead.
31A religious leader, a priest, came by, and saw him, but crossed over on the other side. 32Then another religious leader, a Levite, came by, and saw him and also crossed over to the other side. 33Then a non-Jew came by and saw this dying Jew on the road and wanted to help him. 34He did something practical by going to him, treating his wounds with oil and wine, put him on his own animal, took him to a hotel where he looked after him. 35The next day when he had to go, he paid the bill, and said to the owner, ‘look after him and I will pay you whatever it costs, when I come back.’ 36Now, which of these men do you think was a neighbour to the man who was beaten up?”
37The lawyer replied,
“The one who had mercy on the man”.
Jesus said,
“Well, do it”.
38-42 Martha and Mary
38Now he entered a village and a woman called Martha opened her house to Him. 39She had a sister called Mary who sat at Jesus feet to hear His every word. 40But Martha was busy making the meal. She asked Jesus,
“Lord, don’t you care that my sister is leaving all the work for me to do? Tell her to come and help me.”
41Jesus answered,
“Martha, Martha, you try hard and worry about everything. 42Really there is only one thing that’s needed and Mary has found it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
—-Summary

Prayer, Praise and Worship
“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.
Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).
Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.
Prayer suggestions;-
- The world. (ie ‘For those in authority.’)
- The ‘suffering church.’ https://barnabasfund.org/nz/pray/daily-prayer/#previous-dates
- Your own situation. (Suggest ‘needs’ rather than ‘wants’.)
