A WORD IN YOUR EAR

Luke 7:1-10 Healing the soldier’s servant.

When He had finished teaching the people, He went to Capernaum. 2Here, there was a soldier in charge of one hundred men, who had a highly respected slave who was dying. 3When he heard about Jesus, he sent Jewish leaders to ask Him to come and heal his slave. 4As soon as they found Jesus, they urged Him to help him, saying,

“This man deserves to be helped, 5because he loves our country and even built us a place of worship”.

6Jesus went with them, but when He had almost arrived, the soldier sent friends to stop Him saying,

“Please don’t come any closer, because I am not worthy to have You come to my house, 7which is why I didn’t come to you in the first place. Just say the word and my slave will be healed. 8I know what it means to have been given power over other men. I say to a man, ‘go’ and he goes, or to another man ‘come’ and he comes, or to my slave, ‘do this’ and he does it”.

9When Jesus heard this, it amazed Him and He turned around to face all the people following Him, and said,

“Wherever I have been in Israel, Jews have not shown anything like as much faith as this non-Jew.”

10When the soldier’s friends returned to his house, they found that the slave had completely recovered.

7:11-17 The widow’s son given life.

11After that He went to Nain, with many of His disciples and a lot of the people followed Him there too. 12As He arrived at the gate of the city there was a funeral procession. The dead man being brought out was the only son of a mother whose husband was also dead. There was a big crowd crying with her. 13When the Lord saw her, His heart went out to her for her loss and He said;

“Don’t cry anymore”.

14He went and touched the wooden platform used to carry the dead body before burial and the carriers stopped. He said;

“Young man, get up”.

15The man that was dead just sat up and spoke and He gave him back to his mother. 16This led to a fear coming on everyone but they gave glory to God that a great prophet was with them and that God had come to them. 17This news of him spread through all Judea, and out from there to the surrounding areas.

—-Summary

One of the title’s of Jesus is Jehovah Rapha – The Lord who heals…

Yesterday, today, forever…Jesus is the same…

Today’s Verse… Who is Jesus?

16This led to a fear coming on everyone but they gave glory to God that a great prophet was with them and that God had come to them.

Today’s Challenge

“Wherever I have been in Israel, Jews have not shown anything like as much faith as this non-Jew.”

The non-religious found faith easier to believe in Jesus than the religious! Do you have a testimony of faith in Jesus?!

Prayer, Praise and Worship

“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.

Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).

Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.

Prayer suggestions;-

  1. The world. (ie ‘For those in authority.’)
  2. The ‘suffering church.’ https://barnabasfund.org/nz/pray/daily-prayer/#previous-dates
  3. Your own situation. (Suggest ‘needs’ rather than ‘wants’.)

Jesus said, “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” Matthew 26:40,

Pray along with this hymn…Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s Messiah…
