John 10:1-10 The Gate…

GIVE GOD TIME

Prayer and Praise

Jesus said, “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” Matthew 26:40, so we start our journey of giving God time to work in us, by praying along again with this hymn we had a short while ago, Amazing Grace…  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0gLntLIBYw

A WORD IN YOUR EAR

John 10:1-10 The Gate…

A) John 10: 1-5 (The Complete Jewish Bible).

V. 1.The ones who do NOT enter through the gate…

1. “Yes, indeed! I tell you, the person who doesn’t enter the sheep pen through the door, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber.

V. 2-5 The ones who DO enter through the gate…

2. But the one who goes in through the gate is the sheep’s own shepherd.

3. This is the one the gatekeeper admits, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep, each one by name, and leads them out.

4. After taking out all that are his own, he goes on ahead of them; and the sheep follow him because they recognize his voice.

5. They never follow a stranger but will run away from him, because strangers’ voices are unfamiliar to them.”

Comprehension and second reading. John 10:1-5. The Message Bible…

The ones who do NOT enter through the gate…

1. “Let me set this before you as plainly as I can. If a person climbs over or through the fence of a sheep pen instead of going through the gate, you know he’s up to no good—a sheep rustler!

The ones who DO enter through the gate…

2. The shepherd walks right up to the gate.

3. The gatekeeper opens the gate to him and the sheep recognize his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

4. When he gets them all out, he leads them and they follow because they are familiar with his voice.

5. They won’t follow a stranger’s voice but will scatter because they aren’t used to the sound of it.

B) John 10: 6-10 Jesus’ explanation. (The Complete Jewish Bible.)

6. Yeshua (Jesus) used this indirect manner of speaking with them, but they didn’t understand what he was talking to them about.

7. So Yeshua (Jesus) said to them again, “Yes, indeed! I tell you that I am the gate for the sheep.

8. All those who have come before me have been thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them.

9. I am the gate; if someone enters through me, he will be safe and will go in and out and find pasture.

10. The thief comes only in order to steal, kill and destroy;

I have come so that they may have life, life in its fullest measure.”

Comprehension and second reading. John 10:6-10. (The Message Bible.)

6 Jesus told this simple story, but they had no idea what he was talking about. So he tried again.

7. “I’ll be explicit, then…

I am the Gate for the sheep.

8. All those others are up to no good—sheep stealers, every one of them. But the sheep didn’t listen to them.

9. I am the Gate.

Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture.

10. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy.

I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of…”

  • Today’s Verse…

Who is Jesus? John 10:7

So Yeshua  (Jesus) said to them again, “Yes, indeed! I tell you that I am the gate for the sheep.

  • Today’s Challenge
  1. Jesus said that ONLY those entering His sheep pen through Him belong to Him. Jesus said “You MUST be born again”.
  2. Those avoiding going through Jesus to gain access are thieves and robbers.

How did you enter?

Prayer and Worship

“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.

Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).

Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.
