John 1:14-18 The Word lived among us…

  • Prayer and Praise.

Jesus said, “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” Matthew 26:40, so we start our journey of giving God time to work in us, by praying this hymn…

O Lord my God…

  • A Word in your ear.

John 1:14-18 The Word lived among us…

14 The Word became a human being and lived with us, and we saw his Sh’khinah (glory), the Sh’khinah (glory) of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.

The Word (literally ‘Logos’ meaning ‘The Reason Why’) is why we exist, simply because He created all that is, and He chose to join His creation on earth as a human. St John speaks as a witness when he says ‘we saw His glory,’ because he witnessed the Transfiguration of Jesus.

15 Yochanan (John) witnessed concerning him when he cried out, “This is the man I was talking about when I said, ‘The one coming after me has come to rank ahead of me, because he existed before me.’”

John the Baptist witnessed that Jesus existed. He saw God identify Jesus when he baptised Jesus.

16 We have all received from his fullness, yes, grace upon grace.

It is Jesus who gives us the ‘favour we don’t deserve…freely’. We received from His unlimited generosity.

17 For the Torah (Law) was given through Moshe (Moses); grace and truth came through Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah (Christ).

The Law came through Moses, but His favour we don’t deserve was given to us as a gift by Jesus, who brought to us the truth that He was the Christ. (ie ‘I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life. No-one comes to the Father but by Me.’).

18 No one has ever seen God; but the only and unique Son, who is identical with God and is at the Father’s side — he has made him known.

Summary:-

Exodus 33:20 tells us that no man can see the face of God and live. However, Jesus has! He lives with God, and by being with His Father, He has been at His side. He is the one with God, and has made His Father known to us.

The reason why John 8:16-18 tells us about the witnesses Jesus has had, is because the religious leaders challenged Jesus about having no witnesses to support His statements, which the law required. So already St John the Apostle has provided himself and John the Baptist, as witnesses and they both saw God the Father and the Holy Spirit endorse Jesus at His immersion by John the Baptist.

  • Worship and Prayer.

“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

forever; Amen.
