A WORD IN YOUR EAR
Luke 10: 1-22 Mission of the seventy.
Luke 10: 1-16 The Mission
After this, the Lord appointed another seventy disciples to be His messengers to go ahead of Him into every city and place that He was coming to, 2 saying,
“The harvest is so great that we don’t have nearly enough workers. Pray to the owner of the harvest that He will send more workers to help with the harvest. 3Go where I told you. I know that I am sending you out like lambs being put where the wolves are. 4Don’t take any money with you, don’t carry anything, like shoes, and don’t spend time greeting people on the journey. 5When you enter a house, say, ‘Peace be to this house’. 6If a son of peace lives there, let your blessing stay on the house. If you are not welcome there, then your blessing of peace will come back to you. 7Stay in the same house, eat and drink whatever is put in front of you as it is payment for your work. Don’t move from house to house. 8If a city receives you when you come to it, eat whatever they give you. 9Then, heal the sick, and say to them, ‘The Kingdom of God is near.’ 10And if a city does not want you, go on your way, 11saying, ‘You can even have the dust of your city back that is on our shoes, but know this, the Kingdom of God is near. 12I warn you now that on that day, Sodom, (the city destroyed by God,) will be better off than you’.
13Destroyed will be Chorazin and Bethsaida! If Tyre and Sidon had seen the miracles done in you, they would have repented a long time ago. 14At the judgement, it will be easier for Tyre and Sidon than for you. 15And Capernaum, which everyone thinks is so great, will be thrown into hell. 16Anyone who listens to you, listens to me. Anyone who looks down on you, looks down on me. Anyone who looks down on me, looks down on Him who sent Me”.
Luke 10:17-22 The seventy report back.
17The seventy disciples returned from the mission with joy, saying,
“Lord, in your name, even the devils had to obey us.”
18And He said,
“I was watching Satan fall suddenly, just like lightning falls from heaven.
19From now on serpents and scorpions will not hurt you, and the enemy will have no power over you, in fact, nothing will be able to hurt you. 20But don’t get excited because you have power over the spirits, but you should be happy that your names are written in heaven”.
21Jesus was full of joy and said,
“I thank you O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, that you didn’t show all this to the wise and careful, but to the ignorant. This was the way you wanted to do it. 22My Father has given everything to me. No-one knows who I am except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone the Son chooses to reveal Him to”.
23He turned to His disciples and told them in private,
“Blessed are those who see what you have seen. 24I can tell you now that prophets and kings have wanted to see what you have seen, but haven’t been able to. They wanted to hear what you have heard and have not been able to do that either”.

Prayer, Praise and Worship
“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.
Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).
Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.
Prayer suggestions;-
- The world. (ie ‘For those in authority.’)
- The ‘suffering church.’ https://barnabasfund.org/nz/pray/daily-prayer/#previous-dates
- Your own situation. (Suggest ‘needs’ rather than ‘wants’.)
Jesus said, “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” Matthew 26:40.
