A WORD IN YOUR EAR

Luke 10: 38-11:12 Give Time to God.

10: 38-42 Martha and Mary

38Now he entered a village and a woman called Martha opened her house to Him. 39She had a sister called Mary who sat at Jesus’ feet to hear His every word. 40But Martha was busy making the meal. She asked Jesus,

“Lord, don’t you care that my sister is leaving all the work for me to do? Tell her to come and help me.”

41Jesus answered,

“Martha, Martha, you try hard and worry about everything. 42Really, there is only one thing that’s needed and Mary has found it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Chapter 11:1-12; Jesus teaches on prayer

One day after Jesus had finished praying, his disciples asked,

“Lord, please can you teach us how to pray, just like John taught his disciples?” 2

So, He said,

“When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, holy is your name. May your Kingdom, come. May your will be done on earth, as it is done in heaven. 3Give us today our daily bread. 4Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us and deliver us from the time of trial”.

5He added,

“If you went to a friend at midnight asking, ‘Please can I have three loaves of bread 6for a friend who has come as I have no food to offer him.’ 7The friend will say, ‘Go away, stop disturbing me. The house is locked up and we’ve all gone to bed. I’m not getting up just to help you’. 8I tell you that although he will not get up to help him, out of friendship, he will eventually get up and give him what he wants, just in order to get some peace and sleep. 9So I tell you, ask and you will receive, look and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. 10Everyone who asks will receive, and everyone looking will find, and anyone knocking, the door is opened. 11To you fathers; if your son asks for bread, would you give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish would you give him a snake? 12Or if he asks for an egg would you give him a scorpion? 13If you who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him”.

Prayer, Praise and Worship

“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.

Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).

Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.

Prayer suggestions;-

  1. The world. (ie ‘For those in authority.’)
  2. The ‘suffering church.’ https://barnabasfund.org/nz/pray/daily-prayer/#previous-dates
  3. Your own situation. (Suggest ‘needs’ rather than ‘wants’.)

Jesus said, “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” Matthew 26:40,

As our blog on the homepage is about James’ teaching about faith without works being dead, think about this song with Cliff singing of the example set by the Salvation Army of putting their faith IN ACTION…
