A WORD IN YOUR EAR
Luke 11:14-36 Teaching on spiritual warfare
Luke 11:13-26 Teaching on the spiritual war
14One day He was casting out a demon that was making a man unable to speak. He got rid of the demon and the man spoke, so that really gave the people something to think about. 15Someone said,
“The only way He can get rid of devils is through Beelzebub, the chief of the devils”.
16Others tried to tempt Him into giving them a sign from heaven. 17As He knew what they were thinking He said to them,
“Any kingdom that has civil war comes to an end and any house that has a divided family also comes to an end. 18Now listen; you say that I cast out demons through Beelzebub, but if Satan is divided against himself, how could his kingdom survive? 19If you were right that I could only cast out demons using Beelzebub, then who are your sons using to cast them out? They will judge you for what you are saying. 20But if I am casting out demons by the hand of God, then you have to recognise that the kingdom of God has come to you. 21No-one can steal from a man who is stronger and is on guard against robbers. His stuff is safe, 22unless another man attacks him who is even stronger and who beats him up and then he will lose all his stuff.
23Anyone who is not with me is against Me, and anyone who is not part of the solution is part of the problem. 24When a demon is cast out of a man, it goes around looking for another victim, and if it doesn’t find one, will say, ‘I’ll go back to the one I left’. 25On its return it will find everything nice and tidy, 26and so will go and get seven more spirits who are even more evil than himself, and so the man’s condition will be far worse at the end than it was at the beginning”.
Luke 11:27-28 A woman interrupts Him
27As He was speaking a woman interrupted and said,
“God bless the woman who brought you into the world and fed you with her milk”.
28But He replied,
“Those that are blessed are the ones who hear and obey the word of God”.
Luke 11:29-36 Spiritual warfare lesson, continued…
29When a crowd had gathered, He said,
“This is an evil generation that wants to see a sign, but the only one that they will be given will be the one that the prophet Jonah gave. 30Just as Jonah WAS the sign, (which the people of Nineveh believed,) so in the same way, the Son of Man IS the sign to this generation.
31The queen of the south will be a witness at the judgement and condemn this generation, because she travelled from the ends of the earth to hear Solomon, but someone greater than Solomon is here.
32The men of Nineveh will be a witness at the judgement and condemn this generation as they turned from their sin when Jonah brought God’s message to them.
33No-one lights a candle and then hides it, but it is put up on a candlestick to give light to those coming in. 34The eye allows the body to have light. In the same way, when the windows of your heart are clean, the light can come in, but when the windows of your heart are black, no light can come in. 35So, check that what you think you see as light in you, is not really the darkness, pretending to be the light. 36If the light in you gets rid of all of the darkness, then you will be really living in the light, like a candle burning helping you to see clearly by its light”.
—-Summary

Prayer, Praise and Worship
“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.
Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).
Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.
Prayer suggestions;-
- The world. (ie ‘For those in authority.’)

- Your own situation. (Suggest ‘needs’ rather than ‘wants’.)
Pray along with this hymn by Graham Kendrick, “Shine Jesus shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory…”
