A WORD IN YOUR EAR
Luke 11:37-54 Jesus v. religious leaders.
37-54 Jesus v. religious leaders
37 Anyway, a religious leader begged him to go back to his place for dinner, so He went and sat down at the dinner table. 38The religious leaders were surprised that He didn’t have a wash before dinner. 39So the Lord said to them,
“You wash the outside of the cup and plate but ignore the fact that you are filthy dirty with wickedness inside. 40Didn’t the creator who made the outside, also make the inside? 41It is better to give your money away to those in need and that will show that the inside has become clean. 42You religious leaders will die as you carefully give ten percent of everything you have, but don’t care as much about the coming judgment and the love of God as you do about money. You should have done the one as well as the other. 43You religious leaders will die as you love to be seen to be important and have people greet you as if you were someone special when you go out shopping. 44You religious leaders will die as you are hypocrites. You are the living dead but men come to you and do not know that you are not the real thing, or what you pretend to be.”
45One of the lawyers said;
“Master, when you talk like that, it includes us too!”
46He replied,
“You lawyers will die too. You tell others to do the hardest things that you would never dream of doing yourself and you don’t even think of lifting a finger to help them when they try to obey your ridiculous laws. 47You will die as you take ownership of the sins of your fathers, like the building of tombs for prophets killed by your fathers. 48You are witnesses that you agree with what your fathers did when they killed the prophets, when you take ownership of their actions by remembering it with memorials. 49The wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles and some of them will be killed and persecuted’50…You people that are still alive now will be held accountable for the murders of all the prophets from the very beginning. 51The judgment for the first murder, of Abel, until the murder of Zacharias, who was killed between the place of animal sacrifice and the Temple, will be made in this day and age, where the chickens will finally come home to roost. 52You lawyers will die as the truth that was essential for people to know you stopped people from finding. You lawyers were not interested in the truth yourself and you try to stop anyone else from finding it”.
53Then it was the turn of the other angry religious leaders that were shouting at Him, because all they wanted to do was to try to provoke Him into saying something that would trap Him. 54This whole conversation, with witnesses present, was a trick to try to trap Him into saying something so that they could accuse Him.

Prayer, Praise and Worship
“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.
Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).
Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.
Prayer suggestions;-
- The world. (ie ‘For those in authority.’)
- The ‘suffering church.’ https://barnabasfund.org/nz/pray/daily-prayer/#previous-dates
- Your own situation. (Suggest ‘needs’ rather than ‘wants’.)
Pray along with this hymn… Thy hand O God has guided…
