LUKE 1:26-56 Mothers of Jesus and John.

GIVE GOD TIME

Intentional quiet times God. (The hymn is under worship at the end now).

A WORD IN YOUR EAR

LUKE 1:26-56 Mothers of Jesus and John.

26Then in her sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to one of the cities of Galilee, called Nazareth, 27to speak to Mary, a virgin engaged to Joseph, of the family tree of David. 28The angel came to her and said,

“How are you Mary? I have come to bring you some great news. You are one of the Lord’s favourite servants, and He is with you. You will be thought of very highly among all women”.

29And when she saw him, she was worried at what he had said, and thought that it was a very unusual kind of greeting. 30Then the angel said,

“Don’t be afraid Mary, because God approves of you. 31You will become pregnant, have a son and you will call him ‘Jesus’. 32He will be great and called ‘the Son of the Highest’ and the Lord God will make Him the King. As His family bloodline goes back to King David He has a right to it. 33He will reign as King over the house of Israel for ever, and His Kingdom will never end”.

34Mary questioned the angel,

“But I am a virgin! How can this happen?”

35The angel answered her,

“The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Highest will take over; so what is happening is Holy and He will be called ‘the Son of God’, 36and guess what, your cousin, Elisabeth, is pregnant with a son in her old age, and this happened six months ago to her when it was said she couldn’t have a child. 37This is because with God, nothing is impossible.”

38And Mary said,

“You are looking at the Lord’s servant girl; I want it to happen just as you said”. And the angel left her.

39Mary was so excited she hurried into the hills, to a Judean city. 40Going into Zacharias’s house, she greeted Elisabeth. 41As soon as Elisabeth heard Mary, the baby jumped inside her; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42And she said with a loud voice,

“Of all woman, you are the one God has given the best position to. This is a very special child you will have. 43But how is it that the mother of my Lord visits me? 44As soon as I heard your greeting, my baby jumped for joy. 45At least you believed what you were told, and you will be honoured for that; I can tell you right now that it will happen just as the Lord said.”

46Mary said,

“My soul is just bursting to say how great the Lord is. 47And my spirit sings for joy in God my Saviour. 48For He cared about me, even though I had no position in society, and from now on, everyone will know that God has honoured me. 49For He that is strong and powerful has done great things to me; and holy is His name. 50His mercy is on everyone who fears Him, from one generation to the next. 51He shows His strength by what He does; He brings down the proud, who think so highly of themselves. 52He has brought down those on top, and lifted up those at the bottom.

53He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He has sent away with nothing. 54In His mercy He has helped His servant, Israel,55just as He said He would to our father, Abraham, and to his children for ever.” 1*

56And Mary stayed with her about three months, and returned home.

Prayer, Praise and Worship

“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.

Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).

Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.
