Luke 21:20-38 Jesus prophecies the future…
20-24 Prophecy about Jerusalem “UNTIL the time of the Gentiles is fulfilled…”(v. 24)
20“When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. 21Then if you live in Judea, run to the mountains. Those who live in it should get out into the countryside. Those in the countryside should not try to enter. 22These are the days when the justice and anger which were written about will be fulfilled.23It will be terrible for those who are pregnant and breast-feeding, as there will be great distress in the land then, as anger will come onto the people. 24They will be put to death by the sword and taken by force into other nations. Jerusalem will be taken over by the nations, until the time given to the Gentiles is fulfilled…
25-36 Prophecies AFTER ‘the time given over to the Gentiles, is fulfilled’…
25… “There will be signs;
– in the sun, moon and stars,
– and on the earth, the nations will be full of distress and lack understanding.
– Even the waves of the sea will be roaring.
26Men’s hearts will fail them for fear as they see these things happening on the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken.
27THEN they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory! 28When these things begin to happen look up and lift up your heads for your redemption is near”.
29He told them a story with a meaning.
“Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30When they start to blossom you know that summer is near. 31In the same way, WHEN YOU SEE THESE THINGS HAPPENING, you will know that the kingdom of God is about to appear. 32So be it. I am saying to you this, that mankind will not die out before these things start to happen. 33Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. 34Watch out that you never do anything to excess, or get drunk, or worry so much about this life, that when that day comes, it catches you out unprepared. 35As a trap snaps shut, it will come on all those living on the face of the whole earth. 36So watch and pray that you will be counted worthy to escape all these things that are going to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man”.
37-38 People were spiritually hungry to hear Him.
37In the daytime He was teaching in the temple, and at night He went out and stayed at the Mount of Olives. 38And all the people came early in the morning to hear Him in the temple”.
