A WORD IN YOUR EAR
Luke 22:39-62 Jesus’ suffering begins — Jesus’ friends desert Him.
39-46 Gethsemane Garden, Mount of Olives
39And then He went as He normally did, to the Mount of Olives, followed by His disciples. 40When He arrived, He said to them,
“Pray that you don’t go entering into temptation”.
41He moved away about a stones throw, went down on His knees and prayed 42aloud
“Father, if you are willing, take this ordeal away from me. Anyway, not My will but Yours be done”.
43Then an angel arrived from heaven to strengthen Him. 44The struggle in the contest was so intense that He prayed more earnestly. He was gushing big drops of blood, which fell to the ground. 45After He got up from praying, He went back to the disciples and found that the sorrow had exhausted them. 46He said to them,
“Why are you so drowsy? Get up and pray that you don’t enter into a trial”.
47-53 Jesus is arrested.
47While He was still speaking, a crowd and Judas, one of the twelve, suddenly arrived and came up to them. He went up to Jesus and kissed Him. 48Jesus said to him,
“Judas, are you going to give up the Son of Man, with a kiss?”
49When those nearest Him saw what was about to happen, they said,
“Lord, shall we use the sword?”
50Then one of them cut off the ear of the slave of the high priest. 51Then Jesus said,
“Don’t do that”,
and He touched his ear and healed him. 52Then Jesus turned to the chief priests and temple guards and elders and said,
“You look as if you have come to arrest a robber, with your swords and sticks. 53Every day when I was with you in the temple, you didn’t touch me. But your time is the time used by the powers of darkness”.
54-62 Peter Denies Jesus.
54Then they took Him away to the high priest’s house and Peter followed at a distance. 55After making a fire in the middle of the courtyard they sat down together where Peter joined them. 56A maid saw him sitting facing the fire-light, and stretching herself directly at him, pointedly said,
“This one was also with Him”.
57Then he disowned Him, saying,
“I don’t know Him, woman.”
58After a bit, a different person saw him and said,
“You are one of them”.
And Peter said,
“Man, it wasn’t me”.
59After about an hour, yet another said,
“Truthfully, this one was with Him, and he is a Galilean!”
60And Peter said,
“Man, I do not know what you are talking about”,
and while he was still speaking the cock crowed instantly.
61Just then the Lord turned and looked at Peter, who remembered that the Lord had said to him,
“Before the cock crows today, you will deny knowing Me three times”,
62and Peter went out and wept bitterly.

Prayer, Praise and Worship
“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.
Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).
Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.
