A WORD IN YOUR EAR

Luke 8:40-56 Two more healings!

Luke 8:40-42 and 49-56 Jairus’s daughter healed

1A). Luke 8:40-42

40As soon as Jesus arrived back, everyone welcomed Him, as they had all been waiting for Him. 41One of them was Jairus, a leader from the worship centre, who fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come home with him. 42He had a twelve-year-old girl at home, dying in bed. There were so many people all around Him, that it slowed Him down.

1B).  Luke 8: 49-56 Jairus’ daughter continued…

49He was still speaking when someone from Jairus’ house came to him, saying,

“It’s too late to bring the Master now. Your daughter is dead”.

50Jesus heard and said to him in reply,

“Don’t worry, if you believe, she will be healed”.

51After He went into the house, He stopped everyone else from following Him in, except Peter, James and John and the father and mother of the girl. 51Everyone was crying for the lost girl but Jesus said,

“Don’t cry. She’s not dead at all, but sleeping”.

53Well, they all laughed at Him, as if there was something wrong with Him, having seen that she was dead.

54So Jesus sent everyone out, then took the girl by the hand and called out to her,

“Young girl, get up”.

55Her spirit came back to her, she got up and He told them to feed her. 56Her parents could hardly believe it and He told them not to tell anyone what He had done.

2). Luke 8:43-48 Woman with internal bleeding healed

43A woman who had had internal bleeding for twelve years and had wasted all her money on expensive doctors who didn’t help her, 44touched His clothes from behind, and her bleeding stopped.

45Jesus said,

“Who touched Me?”

Everyone said, “Not me. It wasn’t me. I didn’t do it”. Peter then spoke up for everyone and said,

“Master, there’s a huge crowd all around You. You ask us, ‘Who touched Me?’, but we can’t help it if there’s pushing and shoving.”

46Jesus repeated,

“Somebody touched Me,  – I could feel God’s good power go through Me to someone”.

47When the woman saw that Jesus really did know already that it was her, she came forward and fell before Him with fear, and told everyone why she had touched Him, and that as a result she had been healed immediately. 48Then He said to her,

“Daughter, don’t worry, your faith has healed you. You can go in peace.”

—-Summary

“your faith has healed you. You can go in peace.”

— Today’s verses … Who is Jesus?

1A & 1B). Compare the friends of Jairus and daughter

2). And now compare with the woman with internal bleeding

43A woman who had had internal bleeding for twelve years and had wasted all her money on expensive doctors who didn’t help her, 44touched His clothes from behind, and her bleeding stopped.

Today’s Challenge: We see two reactions to Jesus

1A &1B). Compare the friends of Jairus and daughter…

53Well, they all laughed at Him, as if there was something wrong with Him, having seen that she was dead.

Result?

54So Jesus sent everyone out, then took the girl by the hand and called out to her,

—-

2). And now compare with the woman with internal bleeding…

47When the woman saw that Jesus really did know already that it was her, she came forward and fell before Him with fear, and told everyone why she had touched Him, and that as a result she had been healed immediately.

Result?

48“your faith has healed you. You can go in peace.”

Challenge…

As Joshua once said… “Choose you this day who you will serve…”

Prayer, Praise and Worship

Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).

Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.

Prayer suggestions;-

  1. The world. (ie ‘For those in authority.’)
  2. The ‘suffering church.’ https://barnabasfund.org/nz/pray/daily-prayer/#previous-dates
  3. Your own situation. (Suggest ‘needs’ rather than ‘wants’.)

Pray along with this hymn… “All Hail The Power of Jesus’ Name…”
