A WORD IN YOUR EAR
Luke 9:1–6 Training and mentoring disciples
Then He called together His twelve disciples, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure the sick. 2Then He sent them out to spread the good news of the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick, 3saying,
“Don’t take anything with you for the journey. No walking stick or beggar’s bag, no money or food, not even a change of clothes. 4Whoever opens their home to you, stay with them until you leave town. 5Whoever will not have anything to do with you, when you leave, show them that they are rejected”.
6They went off on their mission to tell everyone the good news and show it by healing everywhere.
Luke 9:7-9 Herod’s guilty conscience
7When Herod heard about Jesus, he was afraid because a rumour was spreading that John had come back from the dead, 8or that it was Elijah or one of the other old prophets who had come back to life. 9Herod said,
“Well, I killed John so who is this?”
And so he wanted to meet Him.
Luke 9:10-17 Feeding the 5,000
10The disciples He sent, (called ‘apostles’), came back and told Him all about it. Then Jesus took them to be alone with Him in the desert around Bethsaida. 11As soon as the people found out where He was, they went to find Him and He welcomed them and told them about the kingdom of God and healed the sick. 12When the day was over, the twelve disciples gave Him advice to send the people away while there was still time to return from the desert to a nearby town and find somewhere to eat and stay the night. 13Jesus said,
“You feed them”.
They replied ,
“We only have five loaves of bread and two fish. (Apart from buying something extra, that’s it, to share with all these people).”
14They said this as there were about five thousand people. He replied,
“Get the people to sit down in groups of fifty”.
15They obeyed and got the people to sit down. 16He took the five loaves and two fish, and looking up He gave them His blessing and He broke the bread and gave it to His disciples to hand out to the crowds. 17They all had enough to eat and more. There was so much food, that twelve baskets of leftovers were taken up.

Prayer, Praise and Worship
“… He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23.
Jesus taught His disciples what we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’; (Luke 11).
Listen here to Albert Malotte’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever;- Amen.
